Jocelyn Ho is an Australian composer and pianist whose works have been performed in Sydney and overseas. Prominent performances this year include a concert at Kansas City Fringe Festival where she was commissioned by the percussion quartet Schlaginstrumentengruppe, and Hartford where her percussion duo was featured in a percussion recital. Jocelyn also featured her own virtuosic solo piano piece, Torus, in her Master piano recital. Torus was also selected to be included at the Denison University New Music Festival in 2006.

Attaining first place in the highest level of music in the statewide Higher School Certificate (HSC), Jocelyn performed her composition “The Chasm” in a showcase concert at the Sydney Opera House in 1999. Having attained a perfect score in the HSC, she received the “Australian Student’s Prize for Excellence” and the “Premier’s Award”, and was given a prestigious scholarship to study pure mathematics and theoretical computer science. During this time, Jocelyn studied composition with prominent Australian composer Anne Boyd. Other teachers she has studied with include Chen Yi and Timothy Place in the USA, where she had a masterclass with the 2006 Pulitzer Prize Winner, Yehudi Wyner.

An avid contemporary musician and supporter of Australian music, Jocelyn has played works by George Crumb, Kaija Saariaho, Chester Biscardi, Carl Vine, Peter Sculthorpe, Anne Boyd, Paul Stanhope, Stuart Greenbaum and numerous others. She was a member of the contemporary ensemble, Musica Nova, and has played in the Piano on the Edge new music concert series at the University of Kansas City. In the past, she has worked closely with many student composers. As a pianist, Jocelyn has also had lessons and masterclasses with pianists such as Ian Hobson, Phillip Entremont, Marilyn Nonken, Nelson Delle-Vigne Fabbri, John Perry and Daniel Herscovitch. Jocelyn has won various piano regional competitions in Sydney and in the US.

Jocelyn was born in Hong Kong and holds a Bachelor of Science at the University of New South Wales, a Diploma of Arts specializing in music at the University of Sydney, A. Mus A and L. Mus A. Currently, she is completing a Master of Music, studying piano with Gerard Willems at the Conservatorium of Sydney. In her spare time, Jocelyn likes to study pure mathematics and theology.
